The Pembroke community came together last Saturday evening to celebrate with food, music and fireworks in a night for young and old alike.

Pembroke Celebrates, a local non-profit run by community volunteers, was on the fields of the Pembroke High School. They were once again lucky to have crisp, dry weather and saw a crowd larger than previous years -judging by the difficulty parking. There were not just Pembroke residents in attendance, but those from surrounding towns as well. The event spilled over to the Hobomock soccer fields and the Hobomock Ice Arena. (Good fireworks viewing from the parking lot!)

The High School field held vendors of all types. A younger child might enjoy the bouncy house or face painting. An older child, or teen, might like to take on the National Guard Obstacle Course or try their hand at sand painting. For the older crowd, booths offered jewelry, wildflower creations, soaps, candles, books and more. The Dunkin' Donut Coffee Cup was there, and of course, the American Legion with free popcorn.

Then there were the snakes. Clutch and Coil was new to the celebration this year, but fit right in and was enjoyed by the crowd. Featuring 13 different ball pythons, Shawn Whitman, the owner of the business, said they offered visitors the chance to handle the animals and get over their fear. The snakes ranged in size from eight inches to five feet, a size to suit every person. Even those who entered the booth afraid of snakes, usually left asking questions and patting them according to Whitman.

Many non-profit organizations were also at the event, hoping to get their message out to the public in attendance. Some of those organizations included Pembroke Community Rec, Pembroke High School PAPA, the Whale and Dolphin Conservation, the Army National Guard, and the Plymouth County Suicide Prevention Coalition.

What everyone wanted were the fireworks. To bring you a little of the evening's fun, enjoy the finale!
