Pembroke is a town with many noteworthy sights, both natural and man-made, but how many can the average resident identify with few clues? That is what this series will explore. Each week you will see a photograph, or perhaps just part of a photograph, and you will be challenged to guess the location. The following week, the location will be revealed, along with another challenge location.

Have fun, explore Pembroke for the answers, and keep on guessing and see how you do!

Here is your challenge for this week, a little tougher than last week!!

And now that you are working on this week's challenge, let's see how you did last week...

Did you guess the Town Pound? If you did, you are correct!

The Town Pound sits right in front of Town Hall on Center Street. The pound was used, in colonial days, as a sort of baby-sitting service for lost cattle and sheep that may have wandered off. It was originally built out of wood in 1712, not exactly in the same location, but here is a photo of the pound from 1890.

The current stone pound was repaired in 1909.

"The ox knoweth his owner"....The farmers had great faith in the loyalty of their animals.

The current residents of the pound have been in there a very long time. Maybe they have forgotten their owners!
