Zserbo Bakery owner signs copies of latest cookbook

Prosecco flowed at Zserbo Bakery recently to celebrate a book signing, the publication of Zserbo's Best by bakery owner Anita Borbely  With plenty of customer favorites, the beautifully illustrated cookbook features Hungarian pastries like Raspberry Linzer cookies and Dobos Torta, traditional soups and other European and Caribbean dishes. Borbely started baking as a child, but became a professional baker by chance. She trained as a nurse in London and immigrated to the United States in 2004. At Christmas, she made cookie gifts for a few of her nurse friends. The following year other colleagues asked her to make them batches of holiday cookies. Orders for Anita's cookies exploded the following year and she decided to rent a commercial kitchen space. The bakery—and Covid ensued. While isolating for Covid, she began to think about writing a cookbook. A while later, a bout with cancer and its treatment gave her the time to make it a reality. This past spring, Zserbo's Best was published. She says it is hard to choose, but Linzer Cookies would rank as one of her favorite recipes because she loves to celebrate holidays and is able to use her special collection of mini holiday cookie cutters to make them. What's next for the baker and newly minted author? A trip to Hungary to visit her family and have some of the best apple pie in the world made by her 84 year old father.
