The Pembroke Citizen Journal welcomes letters to the editor from current Pembroke residents. Letters are published at the sole discretion of the editors, and there is no guarantee of publication. For longer pieces, see Submit an Opinion Piece.
To be considered, letters need to meet the following qualifications:
- Letters should be emailed to letters@pembrokecitizenjournal.com at least three days before expected publication.
- Letters must be 300 words or less. Longer pieces should be submitted as op-eds.
- Writers must include their full name, address and phone number. The letter will be published with the writer’s name and street. The phone number is for verification by the editors only.
- Writers are limited to one letter per 30 days.
- Letters must focus on Pembroke-related issues.
- Writers must disclose any role or interest that readers would want to know about, such as elected or appointed office, candidacy, employment, or a financial stake in the subject.
- Factual claims must be accurate and verifiable. Editors may ask for sources and may reject or edit letters that cannot be verified.
- Personal attacks will not be published.
- Letters must be the writer’s original work and submitted by the writer. The Journal will not accept letters filed on behalf of a third party, form or templated letters, or material that has been published elsewhere.
- There can be no more than two signatures on any one letter.
- During the final week before Town Election, we will not publish new letters about candidates or ballot questions.
Opinions expressed are the writers’ own and do not represent the Pembroke Citizen Journal. The Journal reserves the right to edit for length, clarity, style and accuracy. Edited letters may be returned to the writer for confirmation before publication.
