The Pembroke Citizen Journal welcomes guest opinion pieces from Pembroke residents and others with a clear connection to the town. Op-eds are published at the sole discretion of the editors, and there is no guarantee of publication. For shorter responses to recent coverage, see Submit a Letter.
To be considered, op-eds need to meet the following qualifications:
- Submissions should be emailed to opinion@pembrokecitizenjournal.com at least five days before expected publication. You may send a finished piece or a short pitch first.
- Op-eds must be 700 words or less. Pieces under 300 words should be submitted as letters.
- Writers must include their full name, address, phone number and a short bio (50 words or less). The piece will be published with the writer’s name, street and bio. The address and phone number are for verification by the editors only.
- Writers are limited to one op-ed per 30 days.
- Op-eds must focus on Pembroke-related issues.
- Writers must disclose any role or interest that readers would want to know about, such as elected or appointed office, candidacy, employment, or a financial stake in the subject.
- Factual claims must be accurate and verifiable. Editors may ask for sources and may reject or edit pieces that cannot be verified.
- Personal attacks will not be published.
- Op-eds must be the writer’s original work and submitted by the writer. The Journal will not accept pieces written on behalf of a third party, form or templated pieces, or material that has been published elsewhere.
- During the final week before Town Election, we will not publish new opinion pieces about candidates or ballot questions.
Opinions expressed are the writers’ own and do not represent the Pembroke Citizen Journal. The Journal reserves the right to edit for length, clarity, style and accuracy. Edited pieces may be returned to the writer for confirmation before publication.
