At 10:14 am on Sept. 26, the fire department received a call for smoke coming from a building at 110 Mattakeesett Streeet, according to Captain Jordan Hill of the Pembroke Fire Department. Hill said that the fire originated in the Callahan Auto Supply store of the multi-unit building. Firefighters arrived and quickly made a stop on the fire, confining it to the main building.

Deputy Chief Mark Gassiraro said that when crews arrived, there was a fire at a panel near the corner of the building and heavy smoke coming from the roof line. The first crews advanced through the front door and knocked the bulk of the fire down. Extensive overhaul into the ceiling followed before the building was ventilated.

Pembroke received mutual aid on-scene from Hanson, Hanover and Rockland fire departments, and the Duxbury fire department provided station coverage during the incident. Hill said that the cause is still under investigation, but that two utility poles and wires were down when firefighters arrived and likely contributed.

National Grid responded to the scene to disconnect the live wires and assess the two downed poles. Mattakeesett Street was closed between Grove Street and Wildwood Road until crews cleared the scene.
