Three construction workers were seriously injured Thursday when a barn under construction collapsed at 221 Valley Street, according to a Pembroke Fire Department press release.
The fire department responded around 5 p.m. to the scene and found an 80-foot by 100-foot barn had collapsed. All three injured workers are believed to have fallen about 25 feet.
One worker was trapped beneath the structure and was extricated by Pembroke firefighters, then transported by Boston MedFlight to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. The Hanson Fire Department responded to assist in establishing and securing the helicopter landing zone at Hobomock Ice Arena.
The Duxbury Fire Department transported a second patient to South Shore Hospital and a Pembroke Fire Department ambulance transported a third. All three sustained serious injuries, but the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the release said.
The property is owned by Sweet Water Acres LLC. According to their website, Sweet Water Acres offers equestrian programs, commercial landscape processing, and a farm stand. The circumstances surrounding the collapse remain under investigation.
The Pembroke Police Department, Pembroke Building Inspector and Plymouth County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) responded to assist with the investigation. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified and will conduct an investigation into the workplace incident.
