The Big Y supermarket in Pembroke is now officially open with their grand opening on Thursday, June 18th. Friendly staff welcomed shoppers, offering free cupcakes, one of several promotions over the next few weeks.

They will host a “Big Bash” on Saturday, July 11, from Noon to 3pm for the company's 90th Anniversary. Stores will feature festivities including samplings, celebratory cupcakes, giveaways and a kid-friendly scavenger hunt.

Store manager Steve Gorman took us on a tour of the new store emphasizing their commitment to fresh produce and support for local vendors. Throughout the store there are "local" display cards on items like Northeast Honey, a company founded in Pembroke in 2012.

The fresh food section has been updated featuring, in addition to produce, a bakery, fresh hot bar, a butcher and seafood counter. A "sub shop" opens at 8:00am, and the hot bar serves breakfast sandwiches until 11:00am, then changes over to assorted hot food to go such as chicken wings. There is also a pizza station.

The Baking Manager, Mike Bonarrigo, told us all the pastries and breads are made on site. All cakes can be customized. There is also a full case of gluten free, sugar free and vegan selections.

Joe Warnock leads the team in the butcher shop and can take special orders in addition to managing daily responsibilities. They can accommodate your special request with a twenty four hour notice.
The new store presents as a clean, customer friendly market with a large variety of products. Gorman concluded our tour by saying, “We're proud to be a part of the Pembroke community and hope you'll come on out to our store”.
Big Y Pembroke is open seven days a week, 7:00am to 9:00pm.
