Residents will once again be able to shop for groceries in Pembroke Center when Big Y opens its doors on June 4 in what is billed as a "soft" opening. The soft opening is open to the public and will allow employees and customers to settle in and be comfortable with the store. The Grand Opening will be June 18 and will feature food trucks and DJs.
The new store will feature a bakery, deli, meat, and seafood departments along with a floral department. Big Y will also have a large selection of prepared foods and ready-to-eat meals.
Local residents expressed enthusiasm for the new store, which fills a void left when Stop & Shop closed its doors in 2024.
Maureen Donnelly, of Pembroke, talked about the convenience the new store will be. “It will be nice not having to drive to Hanson or Hanover if I need to make a quick stop to pick something up,” she answered when asked about the store.
Stefani Lydon-Tremouliaris, also of Pembroke, said, “I’m excited to have another store. It’s great that it’s a Big Y, something different from Stop & Stop and Shaw's.”
Hiring for the new store is ongoing. While the walk-in applications process ended on May 29, interested individuals can find information about employment and apply for positions at the Big Y on their hiring page at https://www.bigy.com/page/careers.
Big Y is an equal opportunity employer and offers a drug-free and smoke-free workplace. Big Y has been recognized by Forbes as a Best in State Employer in Massachusetts and Connecticut for the past seven years.
