Did you know that regardless of which town you live in, you can participate in activities at any senior center in our area? Some centers may ask that you become a “member” but there is not usually a cost. Our focus this week will be on three local senior centers: Pembroke, Duxbury and Marshfield.

The Pembroke Senior Center is located on Center Street in the Community Center. November is National Family Caregivers Month. On Monday Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. there will be a screening of the movie “Caregiver: A Love Story” followed by a five-week workshop series focusing on issues related to caregiving and aging. Celebrate Thanksgiving early with a free Thanksgiving luncheon on Wednesday Nov. 18 at 12 p.m. This event is limited to residents of Pembroke. Did you know that the Massachusetts Treasury estimates about one in 10 Massachusetts residents may have unclaimed property available to them? On Thursday Nov. 19 staff from the Massachusetts Unclaimed Property Division will be available to help residents process claims for bank accounts, refund checks, insurance proceeds and other property that they may not realize has been turned over to the state. To register for these events call Melissa Donahue at 781-829-3659.

The Duxbury Senior Center is located at 10 Mayflower St. On Tuesday Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. there will be an informational session on Medicaid Planning and Nursing Homes. Woodford Medicaid Consultants and an elder law attorney will be available to provide information and answer questions. A series of literary events will be held throughout the month of November on the following dates: Thursday 11/5, Tuesday 11/10, Monday 11/16 and Thursday 11/19. At each event a local author will discuss their book and answer questions from participants. These events are free and on 11/5 and 11/16 include a complimentary afternoon tea. On other dates an optional lunch is available for $15. Call the center at 781-934-5774 to register.

The Marshfield Senior Center is located at 230 Webster St. The center has a wonderful Cafe offering breakfast, lunch and take home dinners at very reasonable prices. The Seaflower Cafe specials during the month of November include a croissant breakfast sandwich ($6), a turkey gobbler wrap ($7) and a chicken pot pie take home dinner for one ($7). There are many other choices on their daily menu. On Wednesday Nov. 18 seniors can schedule an appointment with a professional dementia caregiver specialist from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A series called “Feeling Groovy: Music, Community and Wellness” will be held on Thursdays Nov. 5, 12 and 19 from 1 to 2 p.m. Participants will engage in musical activities in a friendly, fun environment. Activities include singing, playing an instrument, songwriting and musical games. To register for activities or to schedule a dementia caregiver appointment call 781-834-5581.

All senior centers offer many activities, educational sessions, exercise classes, senior services and more. For additional information call the centers directly or sign up for their newsletters.
