Recycling Audit: June 22 – July 3

Each year, Pembroke’s curbside recycling program is audited by Waste Management at the municipal recycling facility in Avon. This year’s audit will begin on Monday, June 22 and continue through Friday, July 3.

During the contamination audit, workers collect and weigh samples of incoming recyclables, sort the materials into acceptable and unacceptable categories, weigh the unacceptable materials, and calculate the percentage of contamination by weight. The results of these daily audits will be used to estimate the average contamination rate in Pembroke’s recycling stream and identify where contaminants are entering the system and increasing processing costs. High contamination rates can result in additional fees and surcharges for the Town.

Pembroke is committed to reducing recycling contamination and lowering the associated costs incurred by the community. Throughout the audit period, residents are encouraged to take extra care to ensure that only acceptable materials are placed in curbside recycling bins.

Please DO NOT place the following items in your recycling bin:

By working together as a community, we can improve our recycling habits, reduce contamination rates, and help save taxpayer dollars.

If you have questions about what can and cannot be recycled, please visit the South Shore Recycling Cooperative website and use the Recyclopedia tool for guidance:
