Take Some, Grow Some, Leave Some

What is a Seed Library! Take what you need to learn and grow from these seed packets at the Pembroke Library.

Take Some, Grow Some, Leave Some

If you’re planning on starting a garden this year, your first step should be to stop by the Pembroke Public Library’s Seed Library!

What is a Seed Library? First launched in the spring of 2024, our Seed Library is stocked with an assortment of herb, flower, and vegetable seeds. Similar to the books on the Library’s shelves, the Seed Library invites you take what you need, learn and grow, and then when season allows, return seeds to share with others. Located outside of the Young Adult Room, we have a huge variety of seed packets from artichokes to zinnias. Each packet includes basic growing instructions, so even beginner gardeners can develop their green thumb.

Whether you’re a first-time or long-time gardener, the Pembroke Public Library has books, magazines, and more to help you have a successful growing season. Our Library of Things includes gardening tools like a Soil Tester Kit, which can help you test your soil for light, moisture, and pH values and make sure you’re planting your seeds in the right place.

The Seed Library is made possible thanks to groups and businesses like the Mattakeesett Garden Club, The Gardener’s Choice, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, Cooperative Gardens Commission, Eden Brothers, Toadshade Wildflower Farm, Wild Seed Project, Burpee, American Meadows, Bentley Seed Co., and Floret Flower Farm. The Seed Library also continues to thrive thanks to many local gardeners and community donations of new, unopened seed packets, as well as self-harvested seeds in bags with labels.

Have you already grabbed some seeds? We would love to see your gardens grow all season long. Please tag the Library in any photos you share (@pembroke_pl on Instagram or @PembrokePL on Facebook) or send them to us directly at feedback@pembrokepubliclibrary.org.  Happy gardening!
